Armstrong + Dawn's Trail Loop ◉

Difficulty: Beginner

Length: 4 miles round trip

Elevation Gain: 700 feet

Dog Friendly: Yes

Trailhead coordinates (copy + paste): 40.6538, -111.5095

Directions: Although Armstrong officially starts at Silver Star, parking is limited and trailhead parking is highly discouraged, so it's best to start from the main PCMR base. Park in the PCMR lot and walk up the ski run under Eagle chairlift. Follow the trail into the trees on your right just after the third lift tower.

Once you connect with Armstrong at Silver Star, you will follow the trail up into the trees, winding up the canyon at a mild incline. The trail travels through a forested area and is well-shaded until it opens up at the bottom of King Con chairlift. You will follow the trail into the trees on your right, ascending two full switchbacks, before it sends you back out into the open, where it crosses the ski run and wraps up and around the other side of the hill. This is Dawn's Trail, which was newly constructed in 2014. Follow Dawn's back to Silver Star, then take the connector back to the parking lot. This trail is great during any season (except ski season, of course) and provides lots of chances for adventure. Rather than crossing the run and starting on Dawn's, you can continue up Armstrong and connect to Mid-Mountain. Or, from King Con, walk up the ski run to Miner's Camp. Both parts of this trail are uphill-only for bikers, making this loop especially peaceful for hikers.
