Difficulty: More Difficult ◼︎◼︎
Length: 7 miles round trip
Elevation Gain: 2,000 feet
Dog Friendly: No
Trailhead coordinates (copy + paste): 40.6496, -111.6481
Directions: At the coordinates, park along the North side of Big Cottonwood Canyon Road. There is lots of room to park on the other side of the road as well if needed. Follow the clearly marked trail up the hill. Once you reach Dog Lake, follow the steep trail up to your left all the way to the summit.
The trail up to the lake is partially shaded, runs along a pretty stream, and sees more mountain bike traffic than some of the other trails in the area. This section ascends at a mild incline and is doable for everyone (except the pups, sadly no dogs allowed in Big Cottonwood Canyon). You will reach Dog Lake about 0.75 miles before the summit. If you walk to the right and around the lake, you'll find trails that connect into neighboring Millcreek Canyon. To continue onto Reynold's Peak, head left around the lake and up the steep, narrow trail which goes into the trees. The climb is steep and the dirt can be slippery, but this section is short enough to remain enjoyable and no scrambling is required. Before you know it, you'll be enjoying views of nearby snowcapped peaks and glimpses into the valley from the 9,422-foot summit.
