Difficulty: Moderate ◼︎
Length: 2.5 miles round trip
Elevation Gain: 980 feet
Dog Friendly: Yes
Trailhead coordinates (copy + paste): 40.7594, -111.8214
Directions: Park at the coordinates on Colorow Drive. This trail is popular, so you will likely see other cars parked along both sides of the road. Follow one of the trails up into the trees (they will all open up onto the Shoreline Trail) and then walk straight up the wider trail which heads into the canyon. Keep left about 0.2 miles before the end, turning on the side of the mountain heading back towards the city— don't follow the narrow trail up the canyon from here. You will know you've arrived when you come upon a cluster of rock furniture!
Doable for anybody at the right pace, the Living Room has the best sunset view in the valley. This trail is steep but short, and accessible 365 days a year. Gaze over the city lights and Great Salt Lake while relaxing on a super comfy sandstone couch. Starting at the University of Utah, the valley views are nice the whole way, so you may even choose to do a partial ascent. Trails seem to head in every direction, so if you're up for an adventure, try turning off early and heading straight up (or down) the side of the hill. This part is wide open, so you can't get too lost.
